This Factory Tells A Story of:

Hope

Rodha is a resident of 21st Mile, Pedong. She married a young man at the age of 13. She became a mother of a beautiful daughter at the age of 16 after suffering tremendous pain and hardship. The attitude of her husband changed after the birth of a girl child. She became a silent victim of his torture and abuse, both physical and emotional. He used to come home drunk and torment her.

As the suffering grew unbearable, she left him with her only daughter as her hope for future and her reason for living. The little girl dreams of becoming a doctor someday. This paper unit is Rodha’s HOPE of turning her little girl’s dreams into reality and give her fulfillment, empowerment and joy in her embattled life.

Empowerment

Grace has one son. She married at the age of 23. Her husband turned out be a very cruel and abusive person whose violence multiplied a thousand times when he got drunk. Not a single day passed without her husband beating her up. The little son used to hide in cow sheds and under the bed unable to look at his father beating his mom with whatever he could find available to hit her. The beating got so severe that she landed up in hospital seriously injured on two occasions.

Her cry for help did not bring any response. She lived a shattered life, tortured by her husband and abandoned by her own family member. She wanted to commit suicide on many occasions rather than living a life of hell, but the love of her son prevented her from doing so. As she came to know that a small handmade paper unit is helping people like her get empowered, and live a life of dignity, honor and self sufficiency, she applied for work.

She says, “I dream of giving a good education for my son, who is my only hope and future. This unit had become a light that shines in my dark path. I can see now where I am going.

"Dear Lord, when I lay down to rest in my bed this evening, help me to remember if there is anyone who is still awake, looking at their cold fireplace, hoping that the fire lights again and their children can eat something before the day ends."

People who supply us the bark of the pruned branches of the Argaelee plant have no access to roads. No child in their locality goes to school. Many have not seen a doctor in their villages. The day we go to procure the pulp is a day they can celebrate life as a community. This unit provides indirect employment to the people living in forests at an altitude of 8000 ft above sea level.
